Next Meeting: Thursday, august 14th at 6PM • 102 S Main St
Masontown Matters was born out of a shared vision among residents, business owners, and local leaders who believed in the potential of their community. Residents wanted more social opportunities, businesses sought local economic growth, and the borough needed help providing community services.
In June 2000, the Fayette County Comprehensive Plan identified issues that also affected Masontown. Inspired by a common desire to make a difference, a group of residents formed Masontown Matters in November 2010 and soon obtained 501(c)(3) nonprofit status.
The organization began by hosting community social events, something it continues to do. As conversations grew between the Masontown Matters president, the Mayor, and local business leaders, they identified a need for business development and economic revitalization. This led to the creation of the Business Development Center (BDC).
With grant support, Masontown Matters renovated a building on Main Street to serve as a rent-free incubator space for young entrepreneurs. Rent, furniture, and equipment such as copiers are provided to help startups grow until they can move into their own locations.
Masontown Matters also promotes the community through its Facebook page, encouraging residents to “Buy Local” and highlighting businesses with the help of Melvin on the Main—a moose mascot who visits and promotes a different business each day during the Christmas holiday.
The organization works closely with Masontown Borough on key initiatives like the Main Street Revitalization Project, grant writing, and community cleanup efforts, all driven by the belief that Masontown truly matters.
Masontown Matters mission is to work with residents, businesses, and elected officials in the Masontown area to address issues and to help find ways to promote a positive and progressive community. The organization is made up of private citizens, local business persons, and government officials from Masontown and the surrounding area. All interested individuals are welcome.
